A local two manned fishing boat had set off earlier in the morning and then had problems with their engine cutting out.
At 07 42 the crew pagers sounded to reports of a local fishing boat, IRENE D II, with a broken engine. The ILB - George and Mildred - was soon launched and by 07 46 was at the scene. With a sea state of moderate and an easterly wind from the pier, the ILB went to assist the boat about a mile off shore. Despite the efforts of our crew they were unable to restart the fishing boats engine and it was agreed to give the two crew of the fishing boat a tow inshore. By 08 18 they had reached the shore and the ILB was rehoused and made ready for its next launch by 08 35. Billy Gaff (one of the fishermen) said: 'I am very impressed by the work performed by the ILB and Cromer RNLI station crew as a whole'
